How It Started
This isn't your typical "I always dreamed of opening a bakery" story
I grew up baking with my mom out of joy, not ambition. There was something quietly magical about making something with your hands and watching someone's face light up when they took that first bite. It was never a career plan. It was just something I loved.
Then came 2015. A team ice breaker. One of those questions you don't expect to actually mean anything: "If you could know everything about one topic, what would it be?" Without hesitation, I said: "I would want to know everything about running a bakery." It surprised even me. I laughed it off, filed it somewhere in the back of my mind, and moved on.
Ten years later: another team event, another ice breaker (what is it with these things?). A ball covered in questions made its way to be towards the end of the session. This time it asked: "What is something you've always wanted to do but have been too afraid to start?" I could have answered a hundred ways. But only one thought came to mind: a bakery. So I said it out loud, maybe for the first time ever. And before I could second-guess myself, a coworker looked at me and said she would absolutely be a customer. Something shifted in that moment. A quiet little voice said "maybe you actually can".
That was all I needed.
I went home and started researching business licenses, cottage food permits, the whole world of home-based microbakeries. And something clicked. This was something I could build on my own terms, at my own pace, from my own kitchen.
And here we are one year later, officially open.
The Atrium Bakery is a small-batch, home-based bakery rooted in quality ingredients, intentional baking, and flavors that feel like coming home. Every cookie is baked in a sunlit home with an atrium: a space shaped by light, warmth, and the kind of care that doesn't cut corners. Whether you're treating yourself on a quiet weekend or bringing something special to someone's table, I am grateful to be part of that moment.
